Five-time Olympic swimmer Alison Sheppard MBE has brought to an end a record breaking international career spanning more than 17 years. The 32-year-old Commonwealth Champion announced her retirement today on her return from the New York leg of the FINA World Cup, where she picked up three silvers in the 50m Freestyle, 100m Individual Medley and 50m Breaststroke. ATHENS, Ga. - Georgia freshman Amanda Weir has been named the Atlanta Journal Constitution Female Athlete of the Year. Weir will be honored at the 2005 National Girls and Women's Sports Day awards banquet Wed., Feb. 9, at The Crowne Plaza-Airport in Atlanta. The award is given by the Atlanta Journal Constitution for athletic excellence in 2004.
